Teacher (1974-1979)
Director of Gifted and Special Programs (1979-1990)
Principal, Natchez High School (1990-1992)
Director of Curriculum and Technology (1992-1998)
As a class room teacher, I taught students with multiple disabilities, coordinating phases of educational plans, medical liaison and vocational rehabilitation.
As Director of Gifted and Special Programs, I supervised teachers and programs (intellectual, emotional and physical disabilities and intellectually gifted programs). I wrote and administered state and federal special education programs, faculty training, and assessment teams. I managed a data based assessment program and counseled parents setting up training as needed. I wrote and developed the first gifted and talented program in our district (1983) allowing high school students to earn college credit.
As Principal of Natchez High School, I supervised teachers and academic departments at Natchez High School (1600 students). I facilitated secondary curriculum development, student scheduling, student discipline handbooks, data based attendance and achievement programs. I started the Advanced Placement Program, allowing high school students to receive college credits in mathematics, English, psychology, and art.
As Director of Curriculum and Technology, I implemented a computerized education program for 6000 students (K-12)with a faculty of 400 teachers, administrators, and support staff. I developed and maintained program budgets and curriculum revision (K-12) and served as district attendance officer. I administered the Eisenhower Math and Science program and was principal research investigator for a federal FIRST Competitive Algebra Grant. During this grant period, algebra scores improved significantly. After retirement, I continued to manage (part time) the district attendance program for the remainder of the 1989-1990 session.
