O. nivara Acc. 81825 and Acc. 100428 have been transferred to cultivated variety PR114 (O. sativa). Morphological studies on BC2F1 population suggested that Acc. 81825 provides single dominant BB resistance gene where as Acc. 100428 provide recessive gene for resistance to bacterial blight. The gene from Acc.81825 has already been mapped on Chromosome 4 and mapping of BB resistance gene from Acc. 100428 is in progress.

• Mapping of Bacterial Blight (BB) resistance gene from two accessions O. glaberrima (Acc. 102600b) and O. barthii (Acc. 100119) in the background of cultivated rice varieties (O.sativa).
Two BB resistance genes from two accessions O. glaberrima (Acc. 102600b) and O. barthii (Acc. 100119) have been transferred to cultivated variety Pusa44(O. sativa). Inheritance studies on BC1F1 and BC2F1 populations indicated that resistance to bacterial blight is governed by a single recessive gene. The BB resistant gene from O. glaberrima is mapped on chromosome 5 and in O. barthii on chromosome 6. Their fine mapping is in progress.

• Bacterial culture and DNA fingerprinting
Culturing of Xanthomonas strains both in solid and liquid media. Diversity analysis using RAPD primers.

• Fungal culture, DNA fingerprinting and bacterial culture
Isolation of Phytophthora infestans from tubers and leaves and their purification and their characterization using RAPD primers so as to study their diversity at different places

• Micropropagation
Successful micropropagation of Kufri jyoti, K.giriraj, K. chandermukhi, K.bahar, K.pukhraj, Chipsona I and Chipsona II (all potato varieties), Robinia and Morus alba sp.

Ph.D Thesis title: Molecular mapping and transfer of Bacterial Blight resistance from O. glaberrima and O. barthii to O. sativa.
Bacterial Blight (BB) caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) is one of the major diseases of rice. One accessions each from O. glaberrima (IRGC 102600b) and O. barthii (IRGC 100119) was used for studying inheritance and mapping of resistant gene and its transfer to O. sativa cv Pusa44. Till now there is no report where any BB resistant gene has been designated from these two African species, O. glaberrima and O. barthii.
The F1s of these accessions indicated that the BB resistance genes in O. glaberrima and O. barthii are recessive in nature which was confirmed in BC1F1 and BC2F1 generation as well.
• Inheritance studies showed that resistance in these two accessions was governed by a single recessive gene.
• The two BCIF2 populations, one each with O. glaberrima and O. barthii were used for mapping of BB resistance genes. Polymorphism level of 55.2% and 51.3% was observed in cross between O. glaberrima and Pusa44 and O. barthii and Pusa44 respectively.
• BSA indicated presence of O. glaberrima resistance gene on chromosome 5S and that of O. barthii on chromosome 6S of rice.
• Analysis of population with SSR markers in the region defined by BSA was carried out for both the populations. The BB resistance gene in O. glaberrima mapped on chromosome 5S flanked by markers RM548 and RM593 at a distance of 1.7 cM and 1.1 cM respectively.
• The BB resistance gene in O. barthii on terminal end of chromosome 6S was linked to RM 588 at a distance of 9.3 cM.
• This is the first study of BB gene transfer from O. glaberrima and O. barthii to cultivated species and its mapping on the chromosome.

M.Sc.Thesis title: Studies on micropropagation of strawberry cultivars Chandler and Fern through vegetative buds.
• Standardization of medium for invitro propagation of two strawberry cultivars Chandler and Fern.
• Meristem culturing was done to free plants from Strawberry Mottle Virus. The plants were checked for the absence of virus through biological indexing.
• Comparison was made between invitro grown plants and field grown plants regarding certain parameters like leaf area, photosynthetic efficiency and number of runners per plant and it was found that the invitro plants were more apt as compared to field grown plants.
