· Independent research projects include cloning of fish cytochromes P-4501A1 and 1A3 genes, studies of fish P-450 transcriptional regulation in comparison to murine P-450 promotor, development of transgenic zebra fish with GPF gene indicator and transgenic mice with degradable GFPd2 gene and period 1 and fos promotors, studies of retinal glutamate receptors nitric oxide modulation and AMPA glutamate receptors cloning and expression, studies of cell signaling of chemokine mim-1 and its role in osteoblast cell differentiation and mineralization, and effect of proteasome inhibitors on NFkB signaling and efficacy of radiation
· Managed the successful completion of over 1000 custom research assignments and projects on the contract with US EPA
¨ Managed the launch of the Research Core Facilities at the US EPA NERL; developed training and business strategies plan for Core Research Facilities on the contract with US EPA
¨ Developed new polymorphic genetic markers and indicators for environmental exposure
¨ Implemented efficiencies that improved throughput of custom services while reducing labor, materials, and standard cost of product by 25%
¨ Edited scientific research articles for laboratory colleagues
¨ Generated the transgenic mice with degradable GFPd2 and c-fos and period-1 promotors for circadian clock research project
¨ Discovered that nitric oxide and cGMP modulate retinal glutamate receptors
¨ Cloned and sequenced two ionotropic glutamate receptors and two cytochrome P-450 genes
¨ Discovered the role of osteoclast-secreted chemokine Mim-1 in osteobasts differentiation and bone matrix mineralization
¨ Discovered that proteasome inhibition could enhanced radiation sensitivity in prostate cancer cells but does not have this effect in normal cells and this could be a potential way to improve efficacy of radiation in prostate cancer patients
Professional Experience
Studying the molecular mechanisms of pain regulation in pancreatic cancer and arthritis animal models
Directed 5 - 6 people in the daily process of custom sequencing and genotyping for the US EPA researchers and ensured effective follow-through on all assigned tasks as well as strategic delegation of tasks to qualified individuals. The group ran from 200 to 1000 sequencing or genotyping samples per day, my responsibilities included troubleshooting, customer interface, data analysis and data presentation. One of my main contributions was process improvement and experimental design of custom research projects, developing Work Plans, SOPs and quality assurance reports.
Acquired knowledge in biological effects of proteasome inhibitor MG-132 on NFkB regulation in prostate cancer animal model.
Research Associate (Department of Internal Medicine)
Studied cell signaling of chemokine mim-1 and its role in osteoblast cell differentiation and bone mineralization
Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Associate (Department of Physiology)
Carried out research on function, modulation and expresiion of ionotropic glutamate receptors from fish retina, directed project on circadian clock study, generated transgenic GFP mice.
Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Department of Environmental Health)
Cloned, sequenced, and studied transcriptional regulation for trout cyt. P-4501A3 and 1A1 genes and participated in developing transgenic GFP-zebrafish-biomonitor (environmental “sentinel” for aquatic pollution)
Assistant Professor (Department of Physico-Chemical Biology)
Taught biochemistry, immunochemistry, ecology and biomembranes courses for undergraduate and graduate students
Senior Scientist (Institute of Biology)
Conducted research on effect of environmental pollution on induction of cytochrom P-450 isoforms from freshwater fish species including endemics from Lake Baikal
