Worked as a Research Assistant with Dr. Janet Rubinoff, Course Director, Division of Humanities, 318, York University, Founders College, Toronto, Canada for a project “Impact of development and socio-economic changes in Goa’s agricultural villages” the area of Environmental Impact Assessment.
Responsibilities:
• The main activities and responsibilities was to study the environmental impact of development and the changes that have taken place in many of the villages of Goa
• Interviewing families/farmers in Carambolim village Community, to examine Socio-economic mobility and community identity.

RESEARCH FELLOW (June 02 – May 03)
Worked as a Research Fellow at Department of Microbiology, Goa University, Taleigao plateau, Goa, for a project sponsored by The Energy Resources Institute.
Responsibilities:
• Field trips, Collection of Samples and analysis of Environmental parameters
• Analysis and interpretation of data on the project “Environmental studies on traditional aquaculture in Divar island”

PROJECT TRAINEE – III (17-07-2000 to 30-03-02)
Worked in Biological Oceanography Division at National Institute of Oceanography (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research), Dona Paula, Goa, India, as a Project Trainee III For the project on “Coastal Ocean Monitoring and prediction System” sponsored by Department of Ocean Development, Government of India.
Responsibilities:
• The main duties involved participation in cruises of the CRV ‘Sagar Paschimi’(research vessel) for onboard sampling and analysis of various biological parameters
• Qualitative and quantitative estimation of phytoplanktons, zooplanktons and macro benthic faunal biomass and group identification
• processing and interpretation of scientific data for the project “COMAPS”


INDUSTRIAL TRAINING (03/05/1999 - 31/05/1999)
Undergone one month’s implant training in Environmental Management at Ecology Department, Novartis India Ltd., (Now known as SYNGENTA), Santa Monica works, Corlim-Goa, India. Novartis is a company involved in manufacture of Crop Protection Pesticides.
• During the training period, study of effluent treatment plant was undertaken along with Physio-Chemical Characteristics of the effluents.
• Besides Efficiency of treatment plant with respect to recycling and reuse, working of various Incinerator systems, Air pollution status, etc. was also studied.

PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN:

Macroalgae as a Biological Quality Element for the Assessment of Ecological Status of Coastal Waters
• This project is a part dissertation work for Joint European Masters in Water and Coastal Management (M.Sc. WCM)
• The main objective is to test the macroalgal tools and metrics developed under the European Water framework Directive for the integrative assessment of ecological status of coastal waters in soft bottom shores.

Carambolim Lake on the West Coast of India –An example of Human interference
• This project was a part dissertation work for Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)
• The main objective was to study the present status of ecologically important Carambolim Lake which is also a Ramsar site.
• In the study the distribution pattern of nutrients and metals in water, sediments and Salvinia weed (aquatic weed in Carambolim waters) was studied along with the abundance of trace metals in sediments, water and weeds.
• The accumulation factors of elements in the weeds were also studied.

The effect of Blue green algal biofertilizer on Triticum aestivum GW-496
• This project was a part of dissertation work for Masters in Science – Botany (M. Sc. Botany)
• The main objective was to culture the blue green algae on a large scale and use as a biofertilizer to check the growth on Triticun estivum GW-496

Distribution of Algal flora in Rice fields
• This project was a part dissertation work for Bachelor’s in Science – Botany (B. Sc. Botany)
• The distribution of algal flora especially the Blue green algae was studied in the Rice fields of Carambolim Village in Goa with respect to their role in Nitrogen fixation.
• The Algal samples were collected and identified
• The physicochemical parameters were also studied to understand the environmental conditions and status of waters in rice fields.

CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS ATTENDED:

• National conference on Industry and Environment, sponsored by UGC, held at Karad Maharashtra from 28th December to 30th December 1999.
• National Integration Nature Camp, at Satpuda National Park, Pachmadhi, Madhya Pradesh organised by WWF- India and sponsored by Govt. of India, Youth Affairs from 8th Oct –14th Oct.1999.
• Represented Goa for the conference on YOUTH for Nature South Asia at New Delhi organized by WWF-India and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan on 5th June and 6th June 2000.
• Mushroom Training program organized by Goa State Horticultural Corporation from 28th -29th Nov 2000.
• Regional workshop on Sustainable use of natural resources from the coastal areas and the Western Ghats of Goa and Maharashtra region, organized by Goa University and Shivaji University from 22nd January – 23rd January 2002.
• Youth training workshop on Environment organized by WWF-INDIA, Goa division and sponsored by UNDP through Ministry of Environment and Forests, govt. of India, held at Goa University on 13th May -16th May 2002.

Membership:
• An active member of World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF), Goa and Maharashtra state divisions for eight years.

• Laboratory: Laboratory exposure to instruments like Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, UV Spectrophotometer, High Volume Sampler (Envirotech APM 410-411), Envirotech WM 200Wind Monitor System etc.

Language skills:
Writing, Reading and Verbal skills in English, Hindi, Marathi, Konkani with some basic knowledge of Sanskrit and Portuguese

Social skills and competences:
My past job duties have developed very good Communication skills in me and a close Network with local NGO’S like The Energy Resources Institute, Centre for Environmental Education, World wide Fund for Nature India, Government Departments, Research Organizations and the experts in the Concerned fields. During my present course I got a very good opportunity to interact with people from diverse cultural, educational and ecological backgrounds from different countries. This also helped me to improve interpersonal communication skills. On the personal front, I am a very simple, down to earth and a socialistic person with a very vast friend Circle.

Being a perceptive researcher I am very enthusiastic and conscientious about my work.
