This facility is the most modernized Green House in Sri Lanka, which is a BOI project to grow, pack, and market Strawberries in the leading food chains in the Island and secondarily to export to Japan. The complete technology, the building and the consultancy is from the USA.

The facility is situated in Nuwara Eliya Estate, Nuwara Eliya and was managed by me for 3 years. I have hands on experience in feasibility studies, project proposals, evaluations, Different irrigation systems, Fustigation, Artificial lightings, Pollination using Bumble Bees, Constructing and maintaining a Green House, pH,EC, Radiation measurements, and presenting the Green House to the visitors who were mostly top level executives of different companies who were interested in diversification and the government agents.

Follows through on a series of specific tasks.
Prepares plans for planting, irrigation, site plans, grading, and layout for parks and median projects.
Designs and drafts details for planting, irrigation, paving, walls, fences, drainage ets.
Makes quantity and cost estimates.

This involves taking corrective actions on a day today basis; setting new indicators when necessary to ensure that the fixed operations such as monthly sales, daily input procurement, out turn ratios are achieved within the budgeted tolerance limits.
Ensure preparation of weekly and monthly operational reports and submit to the top management. Any variances from the forecasts need to be addressed.
Work as the facilitator of the weekly operations meeting. For this meeting all the responsible supervisors for production participate. At this meeting weekly performance is monitored against the standards. Problems are addressed and corrective action plans are determined and also assigned to the relevant supervisor when necessary.
Negotiating the prices and finalizing the contracts with the suppliers, at the beginning of the season to procure feedstock, ensure the proper implementation of factory housekeeping, health and safety standards, environmental standards, 5S. And other compliance requirement relevant for the industry.
Carry out, supervise, and meet the predetermined objectives, in any other special project or work assigned from time to time.

My current property is 900 hectares of VP & OST Tea, Rubber, and Timber Plantation with a Tea Factory, a work force of 926 workers and 49 staff members, 16 vehicles and a Medical centre. I am managing with the assistance of two Snr, Asst. Supdts. 1400 bought leaf suppliers and sundry stocks worth 2 million SLR at any given time. The Rubber factory is closed and the Latex is being sold out.

Hemingford estate is 329 hectares of VP Tea and Timber Plantation where I overlooked another Snr. Asst. Supdt.

Attends and actively participates in management team meeting, implement quality control methods, maintain production records, educate others about productions, Oversees operational budget to ensure compliance with organizational expenditure requirements, introduce new methods of productions, direct manufacturing policies. Maintain enthusiastic work environment, Follow up preventive maintenance schedule for all machineries and calibration schedule for test equipments and tools, maintain quality systems and improve procedures, continuous improving productivity and efficiency by implementing TQM practices, cost calculations implement new ideas and safety requirements in accordance with the new technology, establish manufacturing policies in the areas of manufacturing techniques and oversees operational budgets. Achievements
Increasing Productivity: Encourage employee to make suggestions on quality improvement of production. Through implementation of proper employee feedback and reward system, untapped employee potential was explored and they are actively participating towards organizational development. Almost 90% of suggestions were directly related to productivity improvement of the organization. In the field of exporting tea and ornamental plants I have made a significant by getting more orders. Especially for the ornamental plants the technique I use is different to other agricultures.

I have served the Rubber Industry for two years now and am quite conversant and comfortable in managing a Rubber Property. I possess average knowledge in Rubber Manufacture, which I presume if I were given the opportunity, I will master the same, too.

VEGETABLE
CULTIVATION
I have managed 9 Acre’s Vegetable Project in Nuwara Eliya Estate, Nuwara Eliya, growing herbaceous vegetables for the local market
I pioneered diversifying a baron tea land to this project and amassed a massive profit per hectare for the year 2002 for kelani Valley plantations Ltd.

BUNGALOW
I was In charge of a fully furnished 6 bedroom Holiday Bungalow with attached toilets, Swimming Pool and Tennis Court in Avissawella. I pioneered this project and transformed a bungalow falling apart to a modernized holiday resort. I was fully involved in construction, materials management, sales and marketing, quality control, and accounting. I managed this project outside my main duties, which was situated in Hemingford estate, 16 km away from my base station.

I prepared project proposals for this project but the project has not yet taken off the ground. I am capable of proposing and managing a project alongside my main duties. I undertook from the feasibility report to project implementation.

MANAGEMENT

By grouping the estate workers and the villagers to cooperative societies and thereby assisting them to improve their living standards, income generation, health, and sanitation, problem solving, infrastructure and financial needs. I was able achieve the said improvements by sheer motivation and continuous follow up. I was capable of grouping the villagers in parakaduwa in to bought leaf societies and there by getting them to cater to the estate factory and in reply, I have been helping them with advice, supplies, and financial necessities, which concreted the bond.

One of the main duties once elevated to the post of superintendent or The over Looking Superintendent includes Employee relations, representing the company in all legal matters, recruiting, training, performance appraisal of employees and incentive based management.

Formulating targets for the company and grouping employees to achieve them and constant evaluation for performance appraisal.
