Academic Projects
• Insilico Expression Profiling through Codon Bias Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (CDC1551) metabolic pathway genes and novel drug target identification.
Aim:
The main aim of this project is to identify a potent drug target for CDC1551 strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Description:
This project is designed in order to identify a potent drug target for the CDC1551 strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The major metabolic pathways involved in the strain are studied and the genes involved in the pathways are identified. The major metabolic pathways studied are Glycolysis, Gluconeogeneis, TCA Cycle, Pentose Phosphate Pathway, Thiamine metabolism, Riboflavin Metabolism, Urea Cycle, Ubiquinone Biosynthesis, Purine Metabolism, Pyrimidine metabolism. The expression profiles of the genes are identified by calculating the AT, GC content and the AT, GC Skewness of the nucleotide sequences of the genes involved in the metabolic pathways. The Codon Usage Table (CUSP) and the Codon Adaptation Index (CAI) values are calculated using the EMBOSS programs. The protein that shows highest CAI value is found to be highly expressed in the metabolic pathway since the CAI value is the simple, effective measure of the codon usage bias. The protein that is expressed in the diseased metabolic pathway is identified and the properties of the protein are studied.
Conclusion:
In future a drug can be designed to target the protein that inhibits the activity of the protein.
