Participate in audits and strategic business reviews of subrogation supplier. Collaborate with supplier to implement new processes and identify new areas of recovery potential.
Continue actively handling subrogation cases and all other subrogation consultant duties detailed below while managing the unit.
October 1997 to March 2005 Aetna, Inc., Blue Bell, PA - Subrogation Consultant
Actively pursue potential healthcare subrogation cases to increase recovery dollars for the department. Have contributed to meet unit recovery goals and have personally recovered over $1 million each year.
Negotiate directly with attorneys and other third parties and exercise independent judgment in handling cases, including settlement negotiations.
Proactively seek out and analyze legal opinions on cases/statutes raised by other parties; successfully present our position to obtain recoveries.
Act as liaison and coordinate all subrogation issues for outside recovery supplier, including contract language, plan sponsor setup and the provision of affidavits to support recovery rights on files.
Develop and implement subrogation integration policies for newly acquired companies.
Routinely review and analyze contract language. Responsible for drafting updated language to continue to maximize recovery potential. Analyze applicable state/federal regulations and communicate with state insurance departments concerning contract language.
Participate in calls and audits with plan sponsors to discuss the subrogation process, answer questions, and proactively suggest resolution to requests for non-standard procedures.
Actively collaborate with various internal departments to educate them on the subrogation process.

The mission of the organization is to enhance the stature and effectiveness of subrogation and recovery professionals through education, training and the exchange of information.
o Current member of Board of Directors of NASP. The board is responsible for setting the direction of the 2000 member strong organization.
o Chair of Health Care Track for NASP subrogation conference 2004 through 2006. Responsible for soliciting speakers and organizing topics, obtaining commitments, communicating status with NASP committee members, and meeting assigned deadlines.
Achieved the designation of Certified Subrogation Recovery Professional in 2004.
