RURAL EXPERIENCE

I (T. RAJ NARAYANA) completed B.Sc.(Agriculture) in 2006 As a part of our course in final year, we had Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme (RAWEP) for 5 months in the villages alloted us.
We gained experience in doing following activities.
 We gave suggestions to the farmers in various aspects of growing crops and also we gained practical knowledge from them.
 We conducted extension activities like method demonstrations and group discussions among farmers.
 Motivated women in farming self-help groups
 Conducted field trials with the research workers and farmers
 Conducted training programme on vermicompost preparation to farmers.
 Conducted training programme on “SRI” rice cultivation.
 Suggested rural people in maintaining hygienic conditions.
 We acted as bridge between Research workers and farmers in transfer of technology.
 Giving training to rural women for preparation of household items like jam, jelly, washing powder, papad, shampoo etc.
 Providing information to the rural youth about employment scheme of government.
As a part of NSS we were involved in several activities like:
 Blood donation camps
 AIDS awareness programme
 Clean & Green programmes
 Afforestation programme (Vanamahotsav)
 Participated in pulse polio programme
 Conducted animal health camps.

WORK EXPERIENCE

 Worked as INSURANCE MARKETER in Ananthpur District for a month under ICRISAT. We covered 14 villages in & around Hindupur.

 Under Door-to-Door Marketing we visited about 250 farmers field & offer to buy Weather Insurance (Rainfall Insurance) product designed by ICICI Lomabards.
 ICRISAT in collaboration with World Bank is conducting a study of this ICICI Lombards Rainfall Insurance product.

 We explain the concept of Weather Insurance to farmer & explained the benefit of it.
 We told them about Insurance product & also gives information about Rainfall in related to sowing.
 Along with Insurance product we explain extra information about Rainfall in mm & how rainfall translates into depth of soil moisture in the ground and how much rainfall in mm is needed to begin sowing for different crops.

 Worked as ‘Field Investigator’ for one month in ICRISAT project on Global Theme – Markets Policy and Impacts.
 Under this Data Collection on World Bank Agricultural Survey on Rainfall Insurance in Anantapur.
 This survey will sample approximately 400 farmers about 6 mandals surrounding Hindupur, Ananthapur District.

 Under this mini survey we collect information on household characteristic, household saving pattern, Agricultural decisions & weather perceptions optimism about the Monsoon, Risk Aversion & Personality Questions.
