Projects Accomplished:
1. Lucent Technologies, Hyderabad (India)/Chicago August 2000- June 2006.
Lead Engineer
Duties involved development and testing of systems related to UMTS, development and testing of features for CDMA call processing.
Ø Design, implementation and Unit testing of customer required call processing features for Lucent’s MSC - the Autoplexä 1000 System. Core skills gained in these projects include good understanding of call processing concepts and state based modeling, along with knowledge base on telecommunication protocols. The language used for development on these projects was C. Some features worked on include:
o Population of appropriate release causes in the ISUP REL message when call is torn down abnormally - This feature implemented certain cause values received in the ISUP REL message, for calls not completing pertaining to these cause values.
o Provision of Wireless Number Portability - This feature provides the mechanism to port a number from one MSC to another. This involves accessing the Number portability DB using the IS-41 Number Portability Query (NPREQ_INV) and re-route the call based on the routing number received in the IS-41 NPREQ_RR.
o Support of Meter Pulse functionality at the MSC – Allow support of metering pulses to the mobile, based on the applicable charge rate for the day, for prepaid calls. This feature also provides support for communicating the accumulated number of pulses for the call to the Service Control Point in the WIN O-DISCONNECT message. Extensive testing for this feature involved usage of MGTS i3000 PASM state machines.
o Provision of ISPAGE2 support for packet data reactivations – This feature provided Inter-System Paging support for packet data calls. With the incorporation of this feature, a greater percentage of data reactivations can be successfully completed for fast-moving mobiles across MSC borders.
o Support of Customized Ring Back Tone – A popular service that allows a subscriber to select the ring tone to be played back to the caller. Involves identification of the CRBT service for the subscriber through IS-41 messages, setting up the trunk to the CRBT server, ISUP messaging to the CRBT server, and changes to billing records for the service.
o Support of Handoff EVDO VoIP to 3G 1X handoff – This feature deals with supporting a handdown of a VoIP call in an EVDO network to a circuit voice call in a 3G 1X network over a standard A 21 interface. Involved in the requirements analysis for this project.
Ø Design and implementation of a Simulator that emulates the Packet Core Network (PCN) functionality in an UMTS network. The system was essentially designed to test the working of RNC, over the Iu_PS interface. As part of the project, worked on the development of the state machine for the RANAP layer of the SGSN (as per 3GPP TS 25.413 v.3.2.0). Developed good understanding of the protocol layer and stack specification. The system was developed on the DCT2000 system provided by Catapult Communications. The development was in C and DCPL (Data Communications Programming Language used in the DCT-2000 system)
Ø Design and implementation of scripts to provide the PCN functionality to test the first end-to-end call over a UMTS network. The scripts implemented restricted functions of the SM, PMM and RANAP layers to test the setup, data transfer and teardown of a packet call. The scripts were written in C and proprietary DCPL language of Catapult Communications and implemented on the DCT2000 test system provided by the same company.
2. Singapore Telecom, Singapore July 1999- July 2000
Engineer
Duties involved analysis and design of systems used to interface to the company’s local and international gateways and collect and analyze the data from them.
Ø Study, design and implementation of changes to the Network Traffic Management System used to manage Singapore Telecom’s international network. The system has a distributed client-server architecture and the overall design is based on the TMN agent/manager framework conforming to ITU-T recommendations M3010 and uses object-oriented approach in defining the information models, adapting from other standard generic information models such as ITU-T M.3100 and X.721. The language used for development was C++ on AIX.
Ø Implementation of session layer for interconnection to another service provider, via an X.25 PDN. The implementation was done using C and a third-party network software. The host platform used was IBM RS/6000 running AIX 4.1.5.
3. D.E. Shaw & Co. Hyderabad, India July 1997- July 1998
Member-Technical Staff
Duties involved fine-tuning the performance of the company’s trading system and implementation of new business strategies for US equity investments.
Ø Design and implementation of business strategies and infrastructure development of the in-house trading system for D. E. Shaw and Co, New York. The strategies and the trading system were developed using C++.
Other Projects:
Ø Research dissertation - Isochronous Channel Reuse in DQDB networks: This research work dealt with the study of the problems concerning isochronous channel reuse in DQDB networks and investigation of schemes to facilitate efficient channel reuse and improve performance. The proposed schemes were tested with different models developed using C++.
Ø Design and implementation of a simple client-server library information retrieval system, involving both TCP and UDP transmission protocols. The implementation was done in C, and the platform used was Sun Solaris 5.x
Ø Design and implementation of a web-based three-tier client-server administration system with a MS-SQL database at the back end, a Java web-server at the middle tier and Java interfaces at the front end. This system provides a flexible semi-automated management information system with added features of security and data integrity. Object design and modeling for this project was done using the OMT method.
