· Guided Board and led executive team in creation of its first, comprehensive brand-building and relationship marketing initiative involving the development of a positioning platform and new strategic plan, its implementation and articulation for key audiences. Results: New vision statement and core values, visual identity and logo, on and off-line publications with new messaging and unified voice to help align organization internally and enhance reputation and increase visibility, externally; generated unprecedented levels of targeted press coverage for fundraising initiatives and events, core programs and client services; originated internal marketing strategies and tactics for engaging 700 multi-cultural staff in new strategic vision and brand identity, including weekly on-line newsletter and interactive forums; revised website, increased traffic 74% and, tripled on-line donations.

New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC)
Senior Policy & Development Advisor, HHC Foundation 1995-2003
Established the corporation's first foundation to fund health education and capital programs for HHC's culturally diverse and multi-lingual communities. Reported directly to the Chairman of the Board of Directors during this yearlong effort. Results: Foundation established and approximately $500k raised at launch.
Senior Vice President, Communications and Marketing
Led all brand marketing and communications initiatives for $4.3 billion corporation, the nation's largest municipal health system serving 1.5 million multi-ethnic patients annually. Managed $10 million budget, multitude of contracts with multiple vendors. Supervised 12-person office, managed 20 facility-based public affairs directors and 20 directors of volunteers. Reported directly to CEO and worked closely with Board of Directors on numerous corporate initiatives.
HHC consists of 11 acute care and 4 long-term care hospitals, 6 community health treatment centers, 80 primary care clinics, a certified home health agency and MetroPlus, a Medicaid managed care health plan.
Key Accomplishments
· Generated hundreds of favorable news stories, including editorials, front-page and op-ed articles about the Corporation during a time of significant change and controversy in the health care industry. Established corporate press policy, led monthly coaching sessions for key audiences. Handled press during 9/11 WTC disaster. Primary spokesperson.
· Designed, produced and launched "Better Than Ever," HHC’s first multi-media advertising, brand-building and integrated marketing strategy in its 30-year history, customized by service area for each hospital. Results: 8% increase in patient utilization over 1 year. Awards: 2001 Association of Graphic Communications (AGC) for Better Than Ever campaign, new web site and Annual Report; 2001 Safety Net Healthy Communities from the National Association of Public Hospitals and 2001 Social Responsibility Meritorious Recognition from the Foundation of Women Executives in Public Relations for community outreach and marketing initiatives; 2001 PRSA-NY Golden Apple for originating and launching Healthy Habits and Choices, a bi-lingual health education magazine for underserved populations.
· Managed the strategic positioning, development and implementation of a new brand identity for HHC’s Medicaid managed care plan, MetroPlus. Launched multi-cultural, multi-lingual broadcast, outdoor, transit and print advertising and marketing communications campaign. Results: 26% increase in plan membership over 2 years. Awards: Rx award for TV ad and 2000 AGC award for Child HealthPlus campaign and for MetroPlus Gold launch materials.
· Initiated and led HHC’s first customer relations program, with 16,000 face-to-face patient interviews in five languages, across eight service lines. Resulted in corporate best practices and customer service training protocols and programs.

The New York City Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Alcoholism Services 1992-1995
Associate Commissioner, Office of Public Education and Community Affairs
Formulated and implemented multi-year strategic plan concerning all policies and procedures governing the dissemination of information to the news media, professional organizations and general public, including media advocacy and community outreach for $800 million agency responsible for delivering behavioral health care services to one-half million City residents. Managed $1 million budget, multiple vendors and contracts and built 7-person office. Reported to Commissioner, worked closely with Community Services Board, sole spokesperson.

Key accomplishments
· Led mental health/press teams during 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Spearheaded press strategy and advocacy activities. Developed and launched agency’s first Consumer Affairs office and anti-stigma initiative for the treatment, employment and housing of mentally ill individuals. Led media advocacy campaign to pass State mental health legislation concerning violent mentally ill. Results: $500 million funding for Community Reinvestment Act and City’s Involuntary Outpatient Commitment program enacted.

· Developed and secured funding for Choose to De-Fuse, a youth violence prevention program, consisting of a for-credit class at Brooklyn's Progress High School, after-school workshops and media campaign. Awards: National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Finalist Award, International Silver Cindy Award, National Vision Award and National Education Media Award for six television PSAs, airing 2000x quarterly on local stations; New York State Gilbert Award for Community Service for live 60-minute telecast on NY1, "Making the Tough Choice," produced in partnership with Time-Warner, hosted by Mayor Giuliani and featuring inner-city youth.

Private practice. Expert in the development of accurate self-observation, affect regulation and stress management; special interest in interpersonal violence, trauma, and recovery; promoting pro-social behavior through marketing and the media. Individual, couples and group therapy. Conducted executive workshops, contributed to magazines, television news segments and shows and consulted to communications, advertising and broadcasting companies.

Scientist’s Institute for Public Information 1988-1990
Director, Health and Science Programs
Created and led national programs to increase mass media coverage of health, science, and environmental issues, funded by MacArthur Foundation. Developed Videotape Referral Service, an #800 providing journalists with access to computerized database of footage and a national network of experts. Created and launched TV News: The Cutting Edge: A Briefing on Breaking Stories in Health, Science and Medicine for 15 Nobel laureate scientists and 35 national broadcast news executives, with videotaped invitation narrated by Walter Cronkite, which generated 55 science stories. Advised TV news directors nationwide about health, science and environment news programming. Responsible for corporate fundraising and development for all programs, totaling about $750,000 dollars.

Marketing Analyst
Conducted marketing research on investment decision-making and product selection of retail financial consumers. Developed psychological profiles of consumers to focus the marketing efforts of brokerage houses. Responsible for pitching business, preparing written reports, presenting findings and managing accounts.

Associate Producer and Researcher
Originated, reported and co-produced social commentaries, documentaries and interviews for Bill Moyers, Evening News and CBS Reports. Awards: Emmy and Overseas Press Club for six-part series, Africa: Struggle for Survival; Emmy and George Foster Peabody for documentary, "Whose America Is It?”. Worked on several 60 Minute stories.
